Are rottweilers good with kids? ( What owners need to know)

Are rottweilers good with kids

Rottweilers are a breed of dogs which are one of that breed which is infamous for their ferocious nature. They are 2nd rank dogs that are responsible for major dog attacks. They are always in news due to their attacks on their owner or their known person. We don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings regarding their pets or defame them, but it is very crucial to know that without training Rottweiler could be unbridled, and even harmful for their loved ones.

It is a common saying that when the roman legion left the region of Rottweiler, they left behind their drover dogs from which rottweilers are descended. Since then Rottweilers are used for roving, hunting, rescuing and guarding purposes.

Rottweilers are of short stature, approximately 2 feet in length, with a black coat with brown colour tan on head, legs and chest. Rottweiler tails are sometimes docked (a process in which surgically or by other means, the tail is cut out from the dog body.) by their owner to make them more ferocious or attractive.

At what age rottweiler become aggressive ?

It is typically observed that Rottweilers may start showing belligerent or aggressive behavior during their puberty stage, which is around the 6th to 9th month of age.

Rottweilers are honest and loyal. They have a built-in tendency to guard their surroundings which make them a perfect guard for your home from thieves or burglars. They are obedient in taking orders if you control and train them wisely, but we will still advise you to always leave your kids with an adult with rottweilers. Every year in the United States, approximately 30 thousand children were got bitten by dogs, out of which 10% ratio is of Rottweilers. Approximately 50 deaths are caused by Rottweilers all over the world every year.

Are Rottweilers covered by insurance?

Their Aggression is so infamous that even in some insurance policies they are tagged as dangerous dogs and can reject your claim in their cases. If your insurer doesn’t count your pet in your policy, then you can apply to a specific insurance policy in which your pet is also included.

Rottweiler Aggression Signs

These are the symptoms in rottweiler that can help you to track the aggression behaviour in your doggy:-

  • Growling or Snarling
  • Showing teeth without any reason
  • Biting
  • Angry reactions on an unknown or known person
  • Unusual Staring

Why do Rottweilers get aggressive? Reason behind the Rottweiler aggresion:-

There are multiple reasons which could be behind the anger issue of your pet.

Primarily pet shows aggression while having pain, ailment or wound, so you should first check for any possible outer wound or cut in your pet’s body, if you are unable to track any wound, then you should consult with your nearby vet if rottweiler is having aggressive behaviour for long duration.

If your dog was having a previous owner, then you should always check his history. Sometimes previous owners of dogs mistreat them, which lead the dogs to become frustrated or angry. On the other hand, if you as a current owner are addressing the dog with rude or aggression, then the pet could misunderstand your actions as a threat and become aggressive as a counteraction.

Other factors like lack of socializing from the early age of the dog and regular training and exercise also lead a rottweiler to the path of hostility.

Sometimes when dogs show aggression, pet owners try to calm them down him by paying them some rewards (toys or food). Dogs often misinterpret this reward as a fear of their owner and start doing this aggression to get such rewards frequently. Therefore Rottweiler owners must not frequently engage in such rewards activity on the aggression by their Rottweiler doggies.

How to train rottweiler to be friendly

You should always train your Rotties from the very starting phase as it will make them disciplined and well trained, or else they got spoiled and it will cost you with the dog going wild or uncontrollable.

Tips For Rottweiler Owners

Here are some tips for you as an owner to train your rottweiler:-

  • Never leave your Rotties alone for a long duration as Rottweiler are used to be in a social or Pack system. They don’t like the idea of being isolated and can have anxiety issues if left alone at home.
  • Always take your Rottweiler on a walk and always try to walk ahead of your Rottweiler. This will always show your pet that you are the alpha in your family and he must have to admit to your dominance.
  • Never make a tighter grip on the leash of the collar of the dog as it will make them tense and they will act aggressively.
  • Consult your local professional dog trainer. You can also surf online or read books written by professionals on how to properly command or feed the Rottweilers.
  • Train your pet to follow your simple commands from his infant age like Sit, Go and fetch, Do potty, Stay etc. You can reward your Rotties if they follow your command properly.
  • Don’t shout on your Rottweiler unnecessarily or frequently. Always handle Rottweiler as your colleague instead of an animal.
  • Never try to frighten your pet unnecessarily because Rottweiler can be traumatic by fear and hence relate this experience in future reappearance. For example, if any man with a hat had striken your pet with a stick, then it is possible that pet will act violently if he sees this man or any man look-alike that.
  • Socialize your pet with other dogs from a younger puppy stage as this will lessen his aggression and make him more friendly.
  • Always be patient, keep calm while handling Rottweiler. Never show angry behaviour or shout on them.
