How to train dogs to poop in designated areas?

If you are having a pup and want him to train for poop/pee, then you can follow some tips which will help you to train the dog to poop/pee in a designated area in your home.

  1. Pick up the place for your dog where poop or pee will happen. It could be your toilet, your washing area or outside in your garden.
  2. After this took a sample of your puppy’s poop/pee and place it on the designated spot. You can initially take the sample by taking it in the toilet or outside the house.
  3. Now take away your puppy/dog to that spot and command him by any keyword related to this action. For example, you can say ” Do potty (your puppy name)”. After 3-4 times, your puppy will start looking for the scent or fragrance, on the designated spot as he will start getting your command real intention. You can keep the sample in the designated spot until your puppy starts recognizing it, but be sure to keep the area clean after recognition.
  4. Avoid letting him play in this area until he has completed peeing/ pooping.
  5. When the puppy starts following your command, then your can praise him verbally. This will morally inspire the puppy and he will follow your command in future as well.
  6. Stay on the spot until the pup finishes and always praise him for doing it.

How to train a dog to poop outside?

  • You can do this by training him to make potty/pee cue when they want to go outside. This can be whining, scratching or even a bell sign through which he can make you alert that he want to go outside.
  • Put on a leash on him and take him out of home early in the morning, and after supper twice a day. This will make his gut healthy and make the bladder and bowel movement regular. 
  • Always take him to a place where your pet is used to going off easily. If you are taking the pet for the first time, then mark the place and next time take him to the same place. The reason behind this is that dogs mark their places with the fragrance of their own pee or poop.
